Zakat Appeal
Greetings to all!
Native seeds are a renewable resource that enable farmers to save seeds from year to year.
We are approaching the end of the holy month of Ramadan, which is the Islamic 30-day fast. While the Ramadan fast is obligatory for Muslims, Bapak also encouraged Subud members to fast. He provided explanations about the fast and its benefits, as well as instructions on how to fast. One of the obligations of the fast is Zakat al-Fitr, a giving to the poor at the end of the fast in gratitude to God for being able to carry out the fast. Traditionally this was meant to help the poor to celebrate the end of the fast, but Zakat has evolved into a general giving to those in need.
One of the values that I personally like about this tradition is that it promotes the feeling of sharing, love and community among all. It helps me be in touch with the beautiful gesture of connecting gratitude for all our blessings by sharing those blessings with others. To all those Subud members who are fasting, I invite you to follow your own guidance on how best to direct your Zakat-al-Fitr gift this year.
For your Zakat donation this year, please consider:

- The World Subud Association Care Support Program.
With love and best wishes,

Konrad Baerveldt Memorial Fund Established To Help Build Vocational Training Centre In Kalimantan
Konrad Baerveldt
With sadness we record the passing of Konrad Baerveldt on July 10, 2012 in Jakarta, Indonesia. We send our condolences to Hannah Baerveldt and Konrad’s family. Konrad has been a long-time friend and supporter of Susila Dharma International and Susila Dharma initiatives in Indonesia.
In memory of Konrad, the Baerveldt family has formed the Konrad Baerveldt Memorial Fund to aid in the building, operation, and maintenance of Yayasan Usaha Mulia’s (YUM) vocational training centre, which has the aim of providing local, pertinent skills training for youth. SDIA is accepting donations to the Konrad Baerveldt Memorial Fund, and SD Canada for members wanting Canadian tax receipts.
For a decade, Konrad enthusiastically supported YUM, especially its work in Central Kalimantan. As an entrepreneur and businessman himself, Konrad was passionate about overcoming barriers to the education and training of disadvantaged youth. He wanted to break the cycle of poverty by enabling them to become economically self-sufficient. Because of his own experiences, Konrad recognised that the process of empowering youth through gainful employment helped them find confidence, personal integrity, and self-esteem. High unemployment among youth and the lack of simple skills-training facilities in Central Kalimantan presents a serious barrier to personal and economic development.
YUM's vocational training.
The Baerveldt family, YUM, and friends warmly invite you to remember Konrad by partnering with us to establish this much-needed vocational training centre.
