SD Spain
Susila Dharma Spain focuses on change or improvement in three areas: health, education, and infrastructures, like clean water and energy, to improve the wellness of human beings.
SD Spain’s flagship project is the Sierra Leone Health Initiative which aims to support the Clarissan Missionary in the areas of health and education.
The Mile 91 Clinic, run by the Mission, attends around 50-60 patients a day including 2-3 deliveries per week. It has several consultation rooms, a laboratory and rooms for drips and emergency treatment. It also runs nutritional programs.
We also do surgery and dental campaigns, traveling there during our summer vacations. A maternity ward on the same mission grounds is beginning to open its doors.
In partnership with Fundación Milla 91 Salud y Educación, whose president and founder is the SD Spain chair, SD Spain is actively involved in this project by raising funds for medication, food, and scholarships for secondary school students and vocational training for young girls. It also collects furniture and machines – beds, ultrasound machine – for the maternity ward as well as sewing machines for the vocational school. We send all this in containers together with medication and sanitary material every year.
We are always in the process of expanding the existing solar panel plants so that they provide electricity for new wards and the tailoring workshop and school as well. The first plant was purchased for the clinic in 2014 with funding from SDIA. We also help to change primary school furniture which is deteriorated and broken after 40 years of use and help with the expansion and reforms of the Vocational School.
