At A Glance: The Amanecer Foundation was founded in 1990 by the Subud Colombia Association to undertake charitable, cultural, recreational and environmental activities. The Foundation is currently testing a pilot after-school program designed to provide a nurturing, supportive space for rural school children who would otherwise be left unsupervised while their parents work. The program runs 3 days a week, for a few hours each day.
Goals: Provide a safe, enriching environment for young children, thereby shielding them from drugs, alcohol, premature sexuality, violence and abuse; all of which are very real concerns in Colombia.
Results: Approximately 50 children are currently registered in the after school program. Enrollment is expected to increase to more than double that in the very near future.
