At A Glance: The Nkandu III primary healthcare clinic (CSCOM) is one of three pilot projects spearheaded by SD DR Congo that collectively represent communities working in harmony with local health officials to provide quality, accessible and sustainable health services to highly underserved, largely rural populations.
Goals: Provide the local community with critical health services including pre- and post-natal care, vaccinations, general consultations, treatment and mosquito nets. Co-manage a health mutual association via which individuals and families make small, regular financial contributions to help ensure the long term sustainability of the clinic.
Results: Since opening in March 2013, the Nkandu III CSCOM has provided health services to more than 50,000 community members, including 10,627 pre-school consultations, 20,350 vaccinations to pregnant women and children, 5,324 prenatal consultations and assisted births, 11,364 general consultations and treatment. The clinic has also distributed more than 5,000 mosquito nets.
