At A Glance: Blue Spirit – Laury Gratiet Memorial Foundation, established in memory of Laury Gratiet (1999-2020), offers sailing bursaries to young people (ages 18-25) experiencing mental health challenges or social and economic disadvantages. The foundation’s mission is to help youth improve their well-being through sailing, which is known to reduce stress and build self-confidence. Blue Spirit partners with established charities and community groups in the North-East and South-East of England to offer sailing experiences to young people who would not normally have access to such opportunities.
Goals: To provide young people with the chance to improve their mental health, self-confidence, and well-being through sailing. The foundation aims to help those facing mental health struggles or disadvantages by granting them access to nature, challenges, and personal growth opportunities. It honors Laury’s memory by giving others the chance to find peace and adventure as he did.
Results: Since its inception, Blue Spirit has helped numerous young people through its sailing bursary program, offering life-changing experiences that enhance mental well-being and self-confidence.
